I've abandoned LJ and I have no plans to renew or use that site again. Not merely their enforcement of Russian Federation standards, but a lot of other things about the site's ... culture? Community? Not being heavily involved in it for some time now I can't speak to any recent events, just that I was personally growing more exhausted and annoyed by LJ and a lot of the people on it. So here I'm not using my real name as a username, obviously, and generally making it a little harder for folks to find this.

When I began using LJ it was mostly in the form of a personal journal, not intended to really be read that much by others, and I certainly wasn't looking to have to be "on" with every single entry. Some days you just want to post stupid shit, and the pressure to create quality content is something I can do without. I am not necessarily a writer - at any rate creating good writing like a novelist or a journalist isn't what I feel I'm cut out for. So hopefully anyone who starts following me here won't have their hopes too high.

I also don't plan to be involved in any more writing competitions. I'm not competitive by nature, something people sometimes express surprise at. I'm highly competitive with myself, but I don't care a lot about what others are doing. LJ Idol was fine - Gary is a good guy and he did an impressive thing that was a great experience for a lot of people. But having Kitty breathing down my neck to enter every single season and compete really turned it into an onerous chore. "I just really enjoy reading your work!" Well, she sure figured out a way to suck any pleasure I might have felt out of it. Hopefully that's what she was going for. Not to mention her "offers" to proofread meant I couldn't just turn in subpar entries and get myself voted out in the first rounds. But anyway, that's neither here nor there anymore.

That's where I'm at. Hopefully we're back now to commenting on current events, making crude jokes at Vladimir Putin's expense, and posting strange things I find in my perusal of the internet. Since I'm not stuck in an office anymore, there's no reason to do The Friday Thing so I don't have to save all this shit up all week. I consider myself back at the start now. I would say a clean slate but the slates are never clean. People are always saying that without realizing they can't just reset the entire world to be back the way it was, and even if things externally appear the same, the experience didn't go away. I guess there's bourbon for that, but is it worth the brain damage?

I have this almost overwhelming desire for Chinese food. I don't even want to pretend it's "healthy Asian cuisine," I want deep-fried, carb and fat - loaded General's Chicken, extra spicy, and yes I am going to eat that fucking eggroll, AND some of those little fried donuts, and some potstickers. And the little place in town next to Publix does it really well, the broccoli isn't cooked to death, and when you say "extra spicy," by god they make it extra spicy. I'm not sure how they make their sauce but it's not that sweetish, vaguely citrusy stuff you get elsewhere, this has real kick to it.

Well, in just over a month we'll be in Japan and I can spend two weeks there cramming food into my face. Plus they have wasabi. Real wasabi, not horseradish with green food dye.
